January 27, Read Proverbs 27

Proverbs 27:1 - “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”

Prayer: God, I’m reminded today that this very moment is a gift of grace, and it’s in this very moment that I should be present and live wide awake. Living in yesterday most often brings about regret, and living in tomorrow, even though it’s not promised, often brings up anxiety. The only moment that matters is this moment, this day, this gift, and I want to live fully alive to You and Your activity in my life.

Read Proverbs 1

Proverbs 1:7 - "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Prayer: Father God, I come before You seeking Your wisdom and Your knowledge. I humbly admit my limitations and shortcomings before You. As I begin this brand new year, I want Your wisdom to guide me in every decision I make. You are God, and I am not, so lead me in Your ways.

Read Proverbs 2

Proverbs 2:1, 5 - "My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,.... then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You so much for the Bible, Your living Word that teaches, rebukes, corrects, and trains me in righteousness. I ask for wisdom from Your Word this new year. Please help me take Your Word and apply it to my life as I obediently live out Your commandments and let the impact not only be in my family but to all those around me as well. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

Read Proverbs 3

Proverbs 3:11-12 - "My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."

Prayer: Lord, this one is hard. I don't enjoy correction and discipline, but today I ask that You help me see why I need Yours and why it is good for me. Show me how You are using Your discipline and correction to guide me into becoming who You want me to be - who I need to be. Thank You for loving me enough to show me the better way.

January 4

Read Proverbs 4

Proverbs 4:23 - "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

Prayer: God, search my heart. You say that all that I do today will flow from it… how I love people, what choices I make, and my relationship with You. Examine me, and bring to the surface those things that I need to confess. Forgive me, and as I move into this day, let my heart be fully devoted to You.

January 5

Read Proverbs 5

Proverbs 5:21 - "For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and He examines all of your paths."

Prayer: God, I know that You see me. In every moment, Your eyes are on me. You see the path before You send me on it. You know where it leads before I take my first step. I choose to trust that Your love has the whole journey in mind and that it will bring me closer to You and make me look more like You today. Thank You for seeing me. Amen.

Proverbs 6:22 - "When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you."

Prayer: God, I'm grateful for the wisdom of Your words throughout all of Scripture. I'm reminded today that Your Word is a guide that will lead me, a guardian that will keep me, and a companion that will speak to me when I most need it. May I surrender today and every day to Your wisdom, which will never lead me astray.

Proverbs 7:2 - "Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye."

Read Proverbs 8

Proverbs 8:13 - "To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech."

Prayer: Father God, I praise You for Your holiness and goodness. I recognize that my heart is tempted so often and succumbs to sinful, selfish behavior, which is evident with my attitude and words. Lord, I know you hate that, and so do I. Forgive me, Lord. I need Your help to lead my heart towards You. Lead me to have a heart of kindness and to use words of goodness. Change me, Lord!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for all You've shown me in this book of Proverbs. Today, as I seek Your wisdom, please help me have a proper fear and knowledge of You. I want to follow Your precepts obediently so that my life will bring You glory and make an impact in this world. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

Read Proverbs 10

Proverbs 10:12 - “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.”

Prayer: God, I thank You for Your love! I thank You that even in my sin and my rebellion against You, You still pursue me, love me, and forgive me. Today I am praying to understand that radical love so that it moves me to love others in like-kind. I can’t do that on my own; I need Your grace and Your strength to do it. May my life today be marked by love, even when it must stand in the face of hatred - just like You did for me.

Read Proverbs 11

Proverbs 11:25 - “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Prayer: God, Thank You for being a loving and generous Father. Help me follow Your example of giving freely and sacrificially, trusting You with my needs, and focusing on others. Pour out your Spirit on me, cover me with Your grace, and show me today how I can be more generous with my time and resources. Align my heart with Yours that I might bring honor to Your name and be pleasing to You. Amen.

Read Proverbs 12

Proverbs 12:25 - “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”

Prayer: Father, my anxiety is heavy. Scripture says that a kind word cheers up an anxious heart. I will lean into the pages of Your Word today and understand that it’s words bring life because they come directly from Your heart. I will trust You and declare Your Truth over my life and worries today. Give me the chance to speak life to someone else in their anxiety today too. I’ll do it all in Your Name. Amen.

Read Proverbs 13

Proverbs 13:12 - “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

Prayer: Lord, so many of us today longingly wait for a prayer of salvation for a loved one that continues unanswered year after year an agonizing job search filled with endless interviews and rejections, a long-term battle with cancer, or a heartbreaking string of miscarriages. Lord, we know while getting what we desire can be an excellent thing, we must not allow the pursuit of fulfillment to become a temptation to sin. Help me understand today that waiting is an opportunity to trust You and allow You to work in my heart and strengthen my character.

Read Proverbs 14

Proverbs 14:29 - “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Prayer: God, help me to find patience and understanding in You. It is easy to become anxious and overwhelmed with all the things on my “to do” list. Help me keep my emotions in check, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. I trust Your promise that I will have a greater understanding of You and Your will for my life through patience.

Read Proverbs 15

Proverbs 15:4 - “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”

Prayer: Father God, I recognize the power of words. Lord, You spoke the world into existence with Your words, and You have shown us the power of our words. God, help me to use my words to bring life to others. Please give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent. Lord, may Your words come from the depths of my heart to bring love, hope, and joy to everyone I speak with today.

Proverbs 16:24 - “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for speaking Your words of Truth to me and for giving me the strength to obediently apply them to my life these past few weeks. I pray today that You would help me be mindful of my words to others. Help every conversation that I have to be gracious and loving. May all of my words not be words of anger or that would hurt someone but words of healing. May others find healing from You through the way I interact with them today. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Proverbs 17:24 - “A discerning person keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”

Prayer: Father, I need Your wisdom. Thank You for giving it to me; now please show me what I need to stay focused on it! Don’t let my eyes leave You and start to focus on worldly things; instead, give me Your eyes to see this world the way You do. There are so many things distracting me and pulling at me right now, but in Your wisdom and truth, I can have hope and peace. Amen.

Proverbs 18:10 - “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Prayer: God, we are living in a season where we no longer know what or who to believe. There are days the uncertainty leaves me feeling anxious, depleted, and vulnerable. I’m thankful I can run to You, trust in You and find shelter. You are...The Strong One, The God of Truth, The God Who Saves, The God of All Comfort, The Lord My Shield, The Lord Who Heals, The Lord My Rock, The All Sufficient One. Thank you for reminding me that all I need today I can find in You. Amen.

Proverbs 19:21 - “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Prayer: Father, I’ve got a lot of plans. Your Word reminds me that my plans may not be bad but Your plans are always better than mine. Today as I prepare my heart before you, I will choose to surrender more than just a simple transfer of ideas; I will commit to a full transfer of power. Take over so that I can’t get in the way. Transform my heart as I learn to trust every move You make along the way. I love You. Amen.

Read Proverbs 20

Proverbs 20:22 - “Do not say, ‘I’ll pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.”

Prayer: Lord, I’m reminded today that broken people offend and hurt each other in this world. My temptation is to try to hurt those who have hurt me. It feels so natural to want to pay back people for how they have hurt or offended me. And yet, you’ve called me to love and forgive and trust in You. My job is not to defend myself but to trust that You are continuously doing that for me. Today I choose to trust You and attempt to let go of my desires to pay back others.

Proverbs 21:30 - “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”

Prayer: God, there is nothing that can stand against You. In a world full of people with plans and agendas, we know your plan will ultimately prevail. You are the giver of good gifts, and Lord, I desire to be just like you. Create within me a generous spirit. May I hold everything in life loosely so that it can be used to bless others. Use me to be a blessing to others!

Even though my world may seem in the pit of despair, I can hope and trust in You. Please guide my heart with Your Word and instruction. Help me find contentment in all that You have given me and in this new life I’ve found in you. I take comfort in, and praise You for being more than enough for me! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Proverbs 24:19-20 - “Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.”

Prayer: God, it’s easy to see everything going on in our world and see that there are people doing evil and wicked things. It’s so discouraging to see when it looks like they are winning or gaining things they shouldn’t; I need to remember this truth today. While their eyes are on the immediate things of this world, let my eyes be on the ultimate things of Your kingdom! Thank You for the hope that You give me, guide me into being a light to those who don’t have future hope!

Please help me to slow down and be present in the moment. Give me Your wisdom to choose the right words, words that will build up others and bring honor to You. I know that what comes out of my mouth stems from what’s happening in my heart, so Lord today, let the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you.

Proverbs 26:28 - “A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.”

Prayer: God, in a world where words on social platforms connect and disconnect us more than anything else, show me where I’m failing to represent You best. Wake me up to areas where my words may cause ruin and change my heart so that only words of life will be spoken. Breathe life into my conversations today. Thank You for being so faithful to me. Amen.
