Theme: A Better Year
This Weeks Focus: When Life Takes a Detour

January 18
Psalm 118:6, "The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"

Prayer: Father God, I praise You for this promise. If I am honest, I spend so much time and energy afraid of other people and their opinions of me. I am so often enslaved by those opinions that I fail to listen, obey and act on what You have called me to do. Thank You for standing with me. Thank You for giving me the strength to do what is right, good, and helpful. May I live in this promise today!

January 17
Psalm 32:8, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you."

Prayer: Father God, there are so many days that I feel lost. It feels like I'm pulled in so many different directions. So today, I find myself beyond grateful that not only are You capable but willing to help guide me in the ways I should go. I will continue to look for direction from You for my next steps.

When You're Expecting Major Change

January 3
Ecclesiastes 3:1,
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens"

Prayer:
Father God, I praise You for being in control of all of life. You hold everything in Your hand, and nothing is done outside of You. I know that change will happen this coming year, and I know not all changes will be pleasant. Help me now to trust in Your future grace to handle those changes. I expect it to come, but I also know You will be with me every step of the way. Thank You for what You will do in the future.

January 4
2 Corinthians 4:18,
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Prayer:
God, it is so hard not to be distracted by the things falling apart around me. The news, social media, and the community around me seem filled with despair at all that is broken. God, it is hard not to feel the weight of all that is wrong and messed up. I need Your help to draw my eyes to You. Help me, God, fix my eyes, heart, and desires upon You. While the brokenness is real, so is Your love and grace; help me focus on that!

January 5
John 14:27
, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Prayer: God, peace in our world and my life seem so unreal. If I am honest, peace seems like a fairytale because of what is happening. Yet, when I read the promise of Jesus that He gives me His peace, I rejoice. I know that things around me are anything but peaceful all the while; my soul is calm and filled with joy. I know that there is nothing to fear because the peace of God has been given to me. Help me live in this reality in 2022, no matter what I go through!

January 6
Colossians 3:1-2
, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."

Prayer: Life comes at me a million miles an hour, and I feel as if I can barely keep up. God, I know that my focus tends to drift from You to all of the thousands of things I have to do. Honestly, I am tired, and it's only a few days into this new year. But, Lord, I don't want to keep this up. I need Your help to draw my attention to what matters; You! Help me to love the things that You love. Help me do what is right, what is good, and what is helpful. Help me to focus on You!

January 7
2 Corinthians 4:16, "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day."

Prayer: Father God, I praise You for the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. Thank You for sending Your Spirit to support me, strengthen me, and lead me. I know that with some of the changes I'm going through right now and some of the changes I will go through, I could never faithfully walk with You without Your Spirit as my guide and support. May I never take the power and support You have given me through the Holy Spirit for granted. Thank You, Father, for always being there and supporting me.

January 8
Hebrews 6:18-19, "God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."

Prayer: God, You are true. You are trustworthy. You are never changing. Father, I put my hope and trust fully in You. No matter what I am currently experiencing and what I will walk into in the coming days, my hope is in You. You have never broken a promise, and I know You will not start now. I know that I am fully and completely secure in Your arms, which brings me deep soul comfort. Thank You, Father.

January 9
Romans 8:38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Prayer: Lord, there is nothing more comforting and more humbling to read these verses and know that this promise is true. I will cling to this promise every day of my life, knowing that Your love for me never fails; it never gives up on me. I know that You are for me, and I praise You for that. No matter how difficult life is or how bad I mess up, Your love is for me. Praise You, God!

January 10
Romans 12:3, "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you."

Prayer: Father God, I praise You for loving me, the real me, just as I am. I give You praise for loving me so much that You are willing to transform my life. It is so easy for me to deceive myself into believing something that isn't true or honest about who I am. It is easy for me to put on a mask, create a false identity, and live a lie. No more. God, help me be real with You, myself, and see myself the way You see me.

January 11
Luke 18:13-14, "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Prayer: God, You want me to show up as me today. Not pretending to be more, know more, or give more than I actually do. You see the real me, and You love the real me. Help me choose humility and obediently pursue You today without caring what anyone else thinks about me. Amen.

January 12
Proverbs 11:2, "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."

Prayer: Please forgive me for not seeking You and putting You first in my life. In my pride, I start to believe that what I have is something I've accomplished and earned, when in truth, all I have, all my abilities, come from You. I was given this life for Your purposes and to bring You glory; may I please You today in my thoughts, actions, and love for others. Thank You for Your grace and mercy.

January 13
Colossians 1:13-14, "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Prayer: Thank You, God! Thank You for the rescue I have through the forgiveness You have extended to me. Your love humbles me today. I don't deserve it. I haven't earned it. Yet You still love me. I want to receive that love today in such a way that it changes my perspective, my attitude, and my actions. It's hard, so I need the help that only You can provide. God, help me live like the citizen of Your kingdom that I am, with gratitude and devotion!

January 14
Luke 23:34, "Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.' And they divided up his clothes by casting lots."

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for praying for me. I so need Your forgiveness. I didn't know the depth of sin to which I had fallen. Thank You for canceling my sin debt on the cross! Your love and mercy are beyond understanding. Even in Your darkest hour, You still forgave me, so how could I not forgive others who have hurt me deeply. Let me start today in Your strength and for Your glory. Amen!

January 15
Acts 4:12, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I'm so thankful for the gift of Your salvation through Your Son Jesus. Forgive me for looking for other methods of saving myself when You have already done the work for me. Help me to trust in Your saving grace alone and use me to share this gift today with so many around me who need it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

January 16
Philippians 2:9-11, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Prayer: God, there are so many names that I tend to bow my life to that always let me down. Forgive me for not keeping Jesus’ Name above everything else. May my life reflect one surrendered to Jesus’ Name alone as my only Lord.
