CONFESSIONS OF THE HEART
Proverbs 16:18 - “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Prayer: Father God, I come before You and confess that I see and recognize the pride within my heart. I leave you out of so many decisions and areas of my life because I think I can handle it all. Forgive me for trusting in myself more than trusting in You.
John 3:30 - “He must become greater; I must become less.”
Prayer: Father God, I come before You, recognizing that You are God and I am not. As humbly as I know how I submit to You. I surrender every aspect of my life, my day, and my choices to You. Lord, may You increase in my heart, in my thoughts, and my deeds while I decrease the thoughts about myself.
Proverbs 29:11 - “Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.”
Prayer: Father God, I confess that this season of life has produced frustration and anger deep within my spirit. I know that my anger does not honor You. Lord, please forgive me for the anger filled words and thoughts that have overtaken me. I need your wisdom more now than ever.
James 1:19-20 - “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
Prayer: Father God, I know that anger is more prevalent in my life than patience, but I am seeking You to help me. Lord, I surrender my need... to be in control, to be right and to make it all about me. Lord grow within me the patience to love and honor You and others.
James 1:6 - "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind."
Prayer: God, I haven't believed that You would come through for me. I'm beaten up by life and feeling alone. When I look around, I have a hard time seeing Your hand at work in my life. But Your word says to choose faith over my doubt. You promise that you won't leave me, so I can believe that You're with me. Help me to live in this confidence today.
James 1:2 - "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds." James 1:2
Prayer: Father, my surrender to these circumstances won't bring me joy, but my obedience and faith in You alone will. Help me to remember that joy is a fruit that is produced by Your Spirit in me. So I will stay close to You today. I will surrender my life to whatever You have for me, and with joy, I'll give you back the praise.
James 3:16 - "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please search my heart and show any selfishness I may be holding in my heart. I confess that too often, I'm only thinking of myself, how I've been wronged, my happiness, and only concerned with my well-being. Please forgive me for my self-centeredness. I ask that You change my heart and make it more like the heart of Jesus. Help me to look at the world through Your eyes and live to serve others as Jesus would. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
Philippians 2:3-5 - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus"
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me direction from Your Word. I pray that today and every day, my thoughts would be to the interests of others. Help me to see those around me with Your eyes and value them above myself. Help me to be more humble in relationships and look to serve others as Jesus did. I surrender my selfishness to You. I praise You for the work that You continue to do in and through me! In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
1 John 2:16 - "For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world."
Prayer: God, I confess I have fallen into the trap of loving the things of this world more than I should. I am sorry. Forgive me when I let my wants, desires, and cravings of this world take up more space in my thoughts and heart than You and what You have commanded. Keep my eyes focused on You, Jesus.
Matthew 6:19-20 - "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Prayer: Jesus, help me to live my life with an eternal focus. Convict me through Your Spirit of things I'm holding in my hands that have no value. And through Your Spirit and Word, refocus my thoughts and heart towards heaven. I want my life to count, help me to invest my gifts and resources for Your glory. Amen.
Matthew 11:28 - "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before You with a weary and burdened heart. I confess that I have been trying to hold on tight to the control I think I have in life. I try to do things my way instead of Your way because I think I know best. Please help me to release that desire and trust in You. Thank you, Lord, that I don't have to be in control because I can rest in Your arms, the one who truly is in control over everything. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Proverbs 23:26 - "My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes delight in my ways."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the peace that I find when I trust in You and not in my own ways. I surrender my heart, will, thoughts, desires, and ways to You. As I continually surrender and draw near to You, help me become more like the person You created me to be! In Jesus' name, Amen.
Exodus 20:3 - "You shall have no other gods before me."
Prayer: Lord, I have broken your commandment so many times. You created me to worship You, but I choose to worship other gods. It's so easy to worship the seen rather than the unseen. There are so many things that distract me from Your presence that I can't even list them all. I am constantly tempted to spend more of my time, money, and talent on things that promise temporary adrenaline pleasures but ultimately leave me empty and unfulfilled.... yet I keep repeating this sin. Like Paul, I do what I don't want to do, and I don't do what I want to do because of the sin in me. Please forgive me today and take Your rightful place on the throne of my life.
Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Prayer: Lord, my heart's desire is to place You and Your plans first in my life, but I can't do this on my own. Only You can help me. Today, as I renew my mind with the help of your Spirit, please reveal the hidden sins that are sucking the life out of me so that I am not deceived any longer. Give me the power to crush them all one by one. Make my life a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Today, I surrender my time, treasure, and talent to You above all other things.
Luke 12:15 - "Then Jesus said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.'"
Prayer: God, help me guard against the desires I have that aren't from You. I know that I'm guilty of selfishly wanting more for myself, and I know that isn't from You. Would You break me today of that selfishness? Help me to see the gifts and blessings You have given me as not simply for my benefit but for the benefit of those around me as well. Make my heart look more like Yours. Amen.
Acts 20:35 - "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
Prayer: God, I thank You for the example and the encouragement of others like Paul, that challenge and encourage me to become more like You. It is not my nature to be generous, but I want to be. Prompt me and show me the opportunities in front of me to use what You have given me for Your Kingdom and for Your glory. Thank You for this gift of partnering with You in the mission!
Proverbs 16:28 - "A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends."
Prayer: God, I confess that my words haven't always been honoring towards You and others. I have at times caused hurt and pain through words of gossip. I repent of causing strain and separation in my relationships because of my words. Help me to be wise and cautious with the things I say and how I say them.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 - "God thank you for your word which brings life and encouragement to my soul."
Prayer: God I surrender my words and my conversations to You. Let my words be words that build others up. Help my conversations bring encouragement and hope to my friends and family. I know this will only happen through surrender to You. So, God, today, I surrender my words to You to be used to bring life.
Proverbs 3:5 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that I trust in myself for the majority of life's decisions. While I trust You for my salvation, I don't always trust You for daily decisions. So much of my life is making decisions based on what is best for me without regard to what You want from me. Lord, forgive me for not trusting You with my whole being. You are God, and I am not. Help me to live in full reliance upon You!
Psalm 37:5 - "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender every aspect of my heart to You. I will no longer exclude You from any decision I make in life but will seek Your wisdom in all things. I need Your voice to lead me in the direction that You have for me. Lord, I surrender my selfish desires, my best-laid plans, and my future to You. I trust You, Lord.
Proverbs 11:3 - "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them."
Prayer: God, If I'm struggling with dishonesty today, help me to see what's really going on beneath the surface. Where am I lacking in trust and dependence on You? Where do I feel unworthy, or angry, or bitter? Take the brokenness that I'm experiencing and use it to change my heart. Draw my eyes to You and my heart to beat back in rhythm with Yours. I will choose to walk in integrity because it honors You most today. I love You. Amen.
Proverbs 12:22 - "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight."
Prayer: Father, honesty honors You, and being truthful fills You with delight. When I act in dishonesty, I dim the light of Your love and rob people of an opportunity to see You. My dishonesty will ruin me. Help me to rise above it today, leaning into You, knowing that speaking truth connects me to You and allows me to experience Your love so that others around me can experience Your love too. Amen.
James 3:16 - "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."
Prayer: Dear Lord, I confess that at times I struggle with envy. I look around and see people and things that cause jealousy to arise in me. Help me become more aware of the blessings in my own life as I continue to strive to lead a life of gratitude and contentment.
Philippians 4:11 - "Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, in a world constantly striving for "more," I often feel as though I don't have enough, don't do enough, and therefore am not enough. Please help remind me that I live in abundance as long as I have You. You have given me everything that I need at this moment to live life to the fullest.
Jeremiah 50:31-32a - "'See, I am against you, you arrogant one,' declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty, 'for your day has come, the time for you to be punished. The arrogant one will stumble and fall and no one will help her up;'"
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for this scripture that reminds me of how much You detest the arrogant. Father, I pray that You will forgive me when I think of myself as more important than anyone else. Forgive me for looking down on others. I pray that You will help change my heart. Allow me to see value through Your eyes. I am not above anyone else but created to love and serve both You and others around me. Thank You for Your grace that can forgive me and change me. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender all to You today, offering all of me to You as a living sacrifice. I thank You for how You've created me and for the faith, You have given me. I realize all the good that I am and have comes from You. I pray for continued help to view my value and others through Your eyes. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
Philippians 2:3 - "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves."
Prayer: God, there are times in my humanity, I selfishly put myself above others, seeking my own interests, or thinking I am better, more deserving. Forgive me for not seeing others through Your eyes of love and compassion. When I don't show love and respect to them but at the same time say I honor You, I live in a lie and deceive myself. Forgive me when my love is shallow and self-centered, placing myself above others.
Isaiah 29:13 - "The Lord says: 'These people come near to Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.'"
Prayer: God, I want to live a life that honors You, with a heart that beats in sync with You and Your Word. Search my heart and bring to the surface those things that are offensive to You. I don't want to be a person who pays lip service only to You but a person whose words are formed from a heart... full of grace. Let my love for others, my care for them come before my own needs. I ask that Your Spirit keep pressing into my thoughts and my heart to love better, do better so that I bring honor to Your Holy Name. Amen.
1 Corinthians 15:58 - "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Prayer: Lord, I want to give myself fully to Your work, yet I often find myself preferring to be lazy. Forgive me for using this pandemic as an excuse for laziness. Forgive me for spending more time watching electronic screens than I spend in Your presence, reading Your Word, praying, and serving. Increase my zeal and desire to know You more and serve You better. Give me the strength to overcome my laziness and abound in the work You have called me to accomplish. Amen.
Colossians 3:23-24 - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
Prayer: Lord, no more cheap offerings! You didn't make me for mediocrity. Replace my laziness with a renewed purpose to wake up the world to Jesus. Help me serve with enthusiasm, thankfulness, and full-out devotion, whether at home, at work, or in my church. Remind me that you are with me. I pray that in all I say and do, I may do it unto You and for Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
Proverbs 17:5 - "Whoever mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished."
Prayer: God, I know there have been times in my life that I have gloated over my success in the face of others that felt a loss. I know that at times I have even taken pleasure in the demise or failures of others. I'm coming to you today to confess to You that I know that wasn't right; it wasn't of You. Forgive me and my broken, sinful actions and attitudes. Change my heart today to make it more like yours - that I would respond instead with love and compassion.
John 13:34-35 - "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for not only giving us this command but also showing us the way to live it out. I want the world to know that I am following You, but I know I don't love like I should. Thank You for the continued grace and forgiveness... You extend me as I seek to love like You do. Help me grow in my love for You, that my love for You will directly lead to me loving others.
James 4:16 - "As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil."
Prayer: God, I repent of times where I have been boastful. All of my boastings come from a place of pride and arrogance that is not reflective of Jesus. Jesus, You lived and spoke with great humility and grace. I confess I have not reflected You well, and often my conversations elevate myself, my plans, and my agenda above other people. Today, I pray that You would change my heart and change my words to reflect Your character.
Romans 11:36 - "For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen."
Prayer: God, I surrender my life to You to be used to bring You glory and honor. My life finds its greatest meaning and purpose in bringing You glory. Your kingdom was around well before I was born and will last long after I am gone. Help me never to lose sight of Your glory. Help me to always keep Your beauty and honor at the center of all that I say and do.
Proverbs 25:16 - "If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that my heart is in a constant state of wanting more. You have promised that You would meet my needs, but I confess deep down, I am not satisfied. I long for more of the things that bring me comfort, pleasure, and happiness. This desire for more is killing my ability to see You, rest in You and find contentment in You. Forgive me for not believing and trusting that You are enough. Father, help me to trust that You are all I need.
Titus 2:11-12 - "For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender my desire for more. You have given me everything I need in my salvation through Jesus. Father, help me to live life completely satisfied in You. Give me the wisdom to be self-controlled in all areas so that I do not feed the desire for more. May I fall in love with You, the giver of good gifts and not the gifts themselves. You are enough for me!
Romans 13:14 - "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires."
Prayer: God, my thoughts and my actions have not been honoring to You. I've created a comfortable environment for my desires to keep me stuck in unhealthy patterns. My relationship with You is suffering because of it, and I am craving Your presence. I'm turning to You because I know that You can restore what I've broken, and You can give me the strength to walk away from my sin. Thank You for never leaving me. I love You. Amen.
1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Prayer: God, my confessed sin is no match for Your holiness. I'm coming to You today knowing that in my surrender, You forgive what I've done wrong. You forgive my impure thoughts, motives, and actions, and You alone make me right again with You. I surrender my sin today because Your presence is more important than anything else this world has to offer. Help me to choose purity in my next thought and action, and in the next, and the next, today. I don't deserve Your love, but I'm forever grateful for it. I love You. Amen.
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for another day of life. Thank you for the air I breathe. Remind me today, as I'm tempted to judge others for their actions or words, that we are all human. Help me to show others the grace you have shown me each and every day of my life.
2 Timothy 1:9 - "He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time."
Prayer: Dear Lord, remind me today that all of life is grace. The air I breathe is grace. The life I live is grace. The relationships I'm blessed with are grace. The resources I steward... are grace. You have blessed my life with so much, and I want to live knowing that I should surrender all of it because, ultimately, none of it is mine.
Ephesians 4:31-32 - "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for being a righteous God full of compassion and forgiveness. Thank You for the forgiveness and grace and mercy I find through Jesus. I confess to You that sometimes I hold onto bitterness towards others and even anger for the things that I've been wronged in and all of the injustice that I see all around me. Forgive me for the times when I have chosen to fight rather than to forgive. Help me to follow Christ in compassion and forgiveness. Please help me to let go of my bitterness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Luke 6:35-36 - "But love your enemies, do good to them... Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the mercy You have shown me. Even when I was against You in my sin, You still loved me and died for me! I praise You for that precious gift of mercy. Please help me show that gift to others, especially those against me or who have wronged me. Help me to show them mercy in the same way You show mercy. I surrender... my thoughts and my actions that may be against them to You. Thank You for creating a new heart in me! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Mark 11:25 - "And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses."
Prayer: God, I've been holding onto resentment and unforgiveness, and I can't seem to let it go and move on. It's a wound I've chosen to leave open, and it's poisoning me, my relationship with this person, and my relationship with You. Today, help me to choose forgiveness so that You can bring healing and restoration.
Matthew 18:21-22 - "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times'"
Prayer: Jesus, You showed us that true forgiveness has no limits. Please help me remember that You alone hold justice in Your hand, and my unforgiveness damages my relationship with You. God, I submit to You my desire for a balanced scale and ask You to give me the strength to forgive as many times as necessary. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and love. Just as You gave Your life for me, I surrender my life to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
2 Timothy 3:1-2 - "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be.....ungrateful,"
Prayer: Once again, I have lost my focus on You. I have not been very grateful for Your provisions. Selfishly, I felt I deserved more, which has left me unhappy, angry, and bitter. I confess to You that my heart needs a radical transformation. Please forgive me for my pride which led to this ungrateful spirit in me. I don't want to live that way anymore. Help me to be thankful for Your all-sufficient provisions.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 - "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
Prayer: Whether things go my way or not, I choose to give You thanks. With You as my Shepherd, I lack nothing. My heart knows this, but my mind doesn't always agree. In the midst of my busyness and stress, please remind me to pause, and with a grateful heart, give You thanks for all You've done. Give me an awareness... to thank You for the little things You do. Give me the strength to thank You even when I'm in the valley, for it is here that You give me what I truly need.
April 4 - Prayer of Surrender: Worship
Romans 12:1 - "I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Prayer: In light of Your sacrifice for us, what else can I do, God but give my life to You?! In response to the cross, how can I do anything else but offer all of myself to the purposes You have for me?! In light of Your great mercy for me, I choose to worship You today. I pray that You are pleased with this sacrifice and that You are glorified!
