Orphan Care

We, at NorthRidge Church, are called to play a key role in providing love and care to children who have a desperate need of hope.

There are 19,000 children currently in the state of Michigan’s Foster Care system and 6,000 of these children are available right now for adoption. It is our goal here at NorthRidge to reduce that number and offer care and hope to the children in Foster Care. God clearly calls His church to be the ones who care for orphans and in 2010, NorthRidge will begin a journey to engage these children in many different ways, as well as share with them the ultimate hope we have in Christ.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."   James 1:27 (NIV)

What can I do?

Pray. Foster Care and Adoptive Families need you to pray for them and for the children they are welcoming into their homes. James 5:16

Take Action. Even the smallest act can mean a lot to a child that is in need of a home. Providing a duffle bag or even a teddy bear for a child that has just been removed from their home can give a child a sense of value. James 1:22

Step Up. There are many different ways that you can impact achild’s life. Consider becoming a foster parent, an adoptive parent, or a mentor/tutor. Psalms 68:5-6

Where to start?

The Orphan Care team here at NorthRidge has identified three areas you can begin to help orphans in our community.

  1. Immediate Needs. When a child is removed from their home, they leave with nothing. To help the transition we provide duffle bags that includes necessities and some comfort items (i.e. teddy bear). For the list of items and to find out the scheduled drop off dates click here
  2. Become a Mentor/Tutor. We partner with a local residential facility for hurting girls who are in great need of women mentors and womenor men tutors. To learn more about becoming a mentor or tutor click here
  3. Become a Foster Parent/Adopt. There are four unique options - Foster Care, Infant Adoption, Older Child Adoption, and InternationalAdoption. To learn more about each of these opportunities register for the next Discover Orphan Care! To see upcoming dates click here

God has called the Church (you and me) to defend the cause of the fatherless.Join us on the journey.
